MONICA RIVO
BIOGRAPHY

Having a love and appreciation of dance throughout her early years Monicaís revelation in the dance community occurred in 2004 when she was invited to compete in a local Hip Hop dance competition.

Late 2005 Monica aspired for growth amongst the local dance scene. Sharing the same dream with Alvin de Castro and Karen Jehodo, they derived one vision: to inspire, create and dance - the birth of Beatphonik.

Taking classes at United Styles and workshops, Monica also enrolled herself in a short course in Classical Ballet at the Victorian College of the Arts. In a short period of time, she is recognised as having achieved a level of style and execution that most dancers train years and years to obtain.

This has lead her to perform in Van Son 2005 with members from Funkanometry L.A alongside one of her favorite choreographers JP San Pedro; in an array of Melbourne's notorious R&B Nightclubs, showcases for adidas, Boost Juice and Shell Australia, 2008 ANL finals and the award winning competitions with Beatphonik. Monica has represented Australia for the World Hip Hop competition held in the U.S.A with Rewind in 2007 and Beatphonik in 2008.

Monica is also the costume designer for Beatphonik and holds several Best Costume awards under her belt.

1 ON 1: FUN STUFF

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would love to go to Europe, NZ & Canada for a holiday or Japan for some intense training.

What poster is currently on your wall?
Posters & flyers of events Iíve participated in but I havenít updated it since 2004

Name the weirdest place you have ever busted out a move.
In a work meeting supposed to be listening in phone conference. I had chory in my head so I moved away from the table and started doing some moves while still in my chair. My manager & colleagues gave me a confused look and had to mute the phone to laugh.

If your dancing style could be a colour, what would it be and why?
Oh thatís hard. Well I enjoy making people happy through dancing so yellow because it brightens a dark room :)

Whatís the biggest, brightest and loudest item of clothing you own?
Iíd have to say my dancing tees. Theyíre bright in a menís large size so thatís big, bright & loud!

What was your first job?
McDonalds

What other talents/hobbies do you have?
Umm well I assemble the costumes for BP and my colleagues always ask me for help with computers if thatís a talent? Hobbies include playing sports such as baseball, netball & short/long distance running.

What has been your most memorable dance experience?
Hearing that Iíve inspired people to dance would have to be the most memorable. But you know, each rehearsal, performance or competition creates great memories - Meeting people and getting inspired from other dancers & travelling overseas with the two crews that I hold dearest in my heart, Beatphonik & Rewind, is an experience in itself!
