ALVIN DE CASTRO (DIRECTOR)
BIOGRAPHY

Alvin de Castro is one of Australia's best up and coming choreographers - recognized not only locally, but around the world. He is currently Director of the well respected 2007 National Battleground Champions and 2008 Australian Hip Hop Champions, Beatphonik Dance Crew.

Known for his versatility in dance styles, Alvin emerged from a street background. His career in dance began following a successful run in Hip Hop dance competitions and an opportunity to support Sean Paul during his Australian tour. A highly sought after teacher, his style is best described as diverse, powerful and intriguing whilst fusing the movement faithfully to the elements of music.

Alvin received a scholarship and completed a full-time professional development dance course at Patrick Studios Australia, broadening his skills mainly in Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary and Musical Theatre.

Since then, he has been featured in music video clips, Countdown Spectacular 2, the Melbourne launch of Hairspray, festivals, expos, corporate shows and various other events.

Choreography credits include, Beatphonik Dance Crew, showcases for adidas, Shell and Boost Juice, 'You Got Served' promotional tour by Colombia Tristar, Midori Party Week, a variety of dance showcases for Melbourne's premier R&B Nightclubs and last but not least, countless award winning competition shows.

1 ON 1: FUN STUFF

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
The culture of Japan has always fascinated me. I love the language, fashion, design, architecture, technology and the art amongst other things. The hip-hop scene there is also widespread. Definitely back to L.A and hopefully New York to take classes!

What poster is currently on your wall?
I have a framed award for winning the 2007 National Battlegrounds Championships =)

Name the weirdest place you have ever busted out a move.
I dance everywhere I go. Once I choreographed a whole routine while I was waiting for the train at the station because it was the only time I had.

If your dancing style could be a colour, what would it be and why?
Iíd like to say silver because my style could be smooth and it can reflect other moods at the same time.

Whatís the biggest, brightest and loudest item of clothing you own?
I work for adidas Originals so everything I have is bright! Probably this fluro rave jacket by adidas.

What was your first job?
McDonalds

What other talents/hobbies do you have?
I made this website and I do the mixes for Beatphonik =)

What has been your most memorable dance experience?
It was 2004...Metro Nightclub. I can't forget that time I walked on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans when I danced for Sean Pauls Support Act. Most recently would be winning the 2008 Australian Hip Hop Championships and competing at the World Championships in Las Vegas.
